Ad-hoc chess committee announces action plan

The ad-hoc committee for chess in Orissa today announced its plans and programmes for the administration and management of the sport in the state till the formation of a democratically elected body. In a press meet at Bhubaneswar, the five member committee, comprising chairman Asit Mukherjee, convener Manoj Panigrahi, International Masters Sekhar Chandra Sahu, Swayangsu Satyapragyan and Bhubaneswar Chess Association Games Director Saroj Kishore Behera, said that it would conduct an international open rating tournament in June, a felicitation function for outstanding players on March 22 and launching of a website in the near future. The ad-hoc committee was appointed by All India Chess Association (AICF) as per resolution of its Central Council meeting held at Chennai on March 10 following expulsion of Orissa State Chess Association (OSCA) on charges of misconduct and irregularities. PLANS/ PROGRAMMES OF THE AD-HOC COMMITTEE:

  • To assist districts to form their chess associations.
  • To affiliate district associations by giving them equal opportunities in every sphere of chess activity through transparent and democratic process.
  • To conduct selection tournaments, rating tournaments, district, college, school and open tournaments.
  • To select and recommend eligible players to represent Orissa in international and national tournaments.
  • To encourage and coordinate the conduct of coaching programmes in districts.
  • To coordinate with state government and AICF for allocation of funds within permissible rules.
  • To make by-laws so that district associations get the right to affiliation, nomination, voting and contest elections for any post of office-bearers of the state association and such other laws and regulation which help in chess related activities.
  • The ad-hoc body will be duly replaced in due course after election is conducted in conformity with constitution and by-laws.
  • To organize a felicitation ceremony on March 22 this year for past and present players, who have contributed towards the development of the game and brought laurels for the state. The function will be attended by officials of AICF.
  • To conduct an international open rating tournament in June this year.
  • To conduct state under-9, under-11 and senior (rated) tournaments.
  • To launch an website in the near future.
